Kool-Aid is refreshing and amazing and we all love it. But did you know it makes a great quick and easy syrup for shaved ice and snow cones?

Whether you want to make your kids instantly love you more or you just want to remember what it’s like to be a kid, this easy kid-pleasing syrup recipe is a winner.

If you don’t include the water, this is a two ingredient shave ice and snow cone syrup, making it one of the easiest syrups you can make at home. You can easily make this syrup and have it chilled and ready to use in under an hour. Also since Kool-Aid and sugar are super cheap, so this recipe won’t cost much at all.

When we make this with our kids at home we like to mix up a few flavors at once so we can have a few options and make some pretty rainbow colored combinations. Little plastic bottles are fantastic for pouring the syrup neatly onto the crushed/shaved ice and they can also be used to store the leftover syrup in the fridge afterwards. We found these ones on amazon, but you can also find similar ones at Walmart or your local grocery store.

In the fridge, the syrup should stay good for a really long time due to its high sugar content.

You can serve these in bowls, cups, or – our family’s favorite – these disposable snow cone cups. They make the whole thing more party-like.

On with the recipe…

Kool-Aid Snow Cone and Shave Ice Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 pack of Kool-Aid or any brand of unsweetened drink mix (one pack is equal to roughly half a tablespoon of powder)

Preparation

  1. Stir together water and sugar in a medium-sized saucepan.
  2. Bring ingredients to a boil and allow them to boil for 1 minute.
  3. Remove your saucepan from the heating element and pour in the Kool-Aid. Stir.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool and thicken before transferring it to a container. (you can speed this up by putting it in the fridge)
  5. Once mixture has cooled, pour it on top of shaved ice and enjoy a frozen Kool-Aid snow cone!

*BONUS* Adults-Only Alcoholic Kool-Aid Snow Cones

As with any shave ice or snow cone recipe, you can easily adult-up this recipe nicely with a little alcohol. For Kool-Aid, we would recommend either vodka or rum, but really you can use whatever you prefer – tequila kool-aid snow cones anyone?

You can either mix the alcohol with the syrup after you make it, or you can pour it over the crushed/shaved ice before you pour the syrup.

Be careful with that ice shaver after you’ve had a few! You’ll need those fingers to hold your delicious shaved ice.
